Over the weekend, I made it through a last minute leave and went back home to Ipoh. What’s the occasions?
-To celebrate Mother’s Day and my mother’s birthday.
-To escape a chaotic planning for my boss.
-To check out and plan renovations for new house.
-Visit younger brother in National Service Camp.
Mother’s Day/Birthday
Nope. Didn’t do much. Didn’t plan anything either. It was such a last minute call from my brother for a ride back home. I was sleeping the night before and woke up at 3.00am to have my brother told me that he will be going back to Ipoh tomorrow morning and wonder if I would tag along. The next morning, packed my bags, leave for work, took half day off and went back home.
Escape from Chaos
A week of planning a chaotic trip for my boss to India for an Awards Festival. I pray that he faced no problem in his flights, his hotel booking, his other miscellaneous stuff, and etc. So took the leave hoping that no emergency calls and lat minute setbacks which will send me banging on the wall.
New House Renovation
I also got the chance to check out our yet-to-be-numbered house. It is supposed to be a three-room terrace corner house. But we have plans to convert it into a five-room house at the expense of the garden. Hope the plan is approved by the municipal council. Finally I was able to make use of my ‘Lukisan Kejuruteraan’ skills which has gotten me an A2 in SPM, which has been the starting point of ever-moving career path. (FYI - I started with ‘Lukisan Kejuruteraan’, then took up Film and Animation in MMU, then started work as Junior Editor in MFX before I switching to be Asst. Producer/Operations Manager/Multi-tasker at MFX)
National Service Camp visit
On Sunday, my parents and I went on a road trip to Kem Bina Negara at a place called Segari, which I had never heard of until that day. It is situated about 10-20 minutes off Lumut and is about an hour and a half drive from Ipoh. Checked the car’s meter and it is exactly 107.6km from where I leave our car park.
Felt like it was a great plan to instill mental training and other character buiding factors into these kids. It’s good for them to have a feel of what to expect when they get out from the camp. Good thing that it has also changed my brother to a much more understanding/less aggresive person. However, I do felt bad for them as they have to endure 3 months of shitty food. Once in two weeks, they get to have visits from their parents. And the day before these kids will call back to their parents and requests for cakes, KFCs, Pizzas, and of course for the Chinese … some pork. The parents will never object their requests as they knew their kids were having uncook chicken, unwashed vegies, burnt rice, and etc. I’ve never seen adults (well, they can almost be considered as adults …) rush for food like hungry wolves with my own eyes until now. And after every visit, the kids will organize a get together party to share and enjoy each others’ food. The spirit of togetherness …
Hope the kids in the camp will learn much from the camp. Wish them good luck in finishing the term or so-called service.
